Come in! Find a seat!

My name is Brother Thomas. I am in charge of the educational programs here at the Abbey. You can choose from the course offerings in the menu at the right or from the list below (scroll down). Here's a brief description of what you'll find here.

  • Dear Brother Thomas is our flagship project, a dynamic curriculum in moral theology. The teacher's resource center is up and running, offering morality teachers a full curriculum or resources to supplement existing programs.
  • Want to learn about morality from the comfort of your own home? Then the "Online Classes" link under Dear Brother Thomas is for you! This course is not yet accepting enrollments, but it should be ready by the end of the summer!
  • Church document studies are open enrollment course, free of charge! They offer study guides and educational commentary on Church documents. This is not a formal class, but a resource for you to study the teachings of the Church.
  • Home school courses are private classrooms for home school co-ops who have hired Jeff to teach a co-op class. If you are home schooling and are part of a co-op (or would like to get something started), contact Jeff (jeff@fromtheabbey.com) for more information about his classes!
  • Theology courses are custom-made courses commissioned by parishes or deaneries. Once they are completed they are open to anyone. These are teacher resource centers, providing lesson plans and resources to teach a specific curriculum. You can also commission Jeff to write a course for you!
  • The Gifts of the Holy Spirit course is intended for confirmation candidates to learn more about what they will receive in the sacrament. It contains resources for seven 2-hour classes, currently geared toward discussion groups. It will soon include classroom resources for parishes holding teacher-centered Confirmation courses.
  • The lab is not accessible to the general public. It is where we play with new ideas to see what will work before we turn them loose on you!

It is always exciting to teach for the Lay Formation program and the Deacon Aspirants. The Classroom houses your learning environment, where you will find one of your grading options (weekly discussions, monthly quizzes) or just a forum for questions and discussion. You will need to sign up using the form to the right in order to register for the online learning environment.

This form is for LFI and Deacon Aspirants only! Other guests can register using the login panel at the top of the right column.

Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish!
by Jeffrey Arrowood - Tuesday, 29 September 2009, 01:21 PM

Our Lady of Peace Parish in Marshfield, WI, has commissioned me to write a confirmation program for them on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Once it is written and posted, it will be available for sale to all parishes and interested parties (home schoolers, etc). Meanwhile, OLP is exercising great patience as I write these lessons. They are using them almost as soon as I complete them. Thank you for your patience, your dedication to our youth and the great feedback I know I'll get to make this program even better!
