Is your life out of control? Do you find yourself thinking
You’re not alone. Feeling out of control is a regular part of living in our culture. Some people enjoy the excitement of this rushed, hectic lifestyle. Adrenaline rush. Action under pressure.
But most of us hate it.
Too many things coming at us
From too many directions
Never feeling our best
Never making progress
We hate it.
The ancient, powerful secret is the virtue of prudence.
Prudence is one of the four cardinal virtues. A “cardinal” virtue is a virtue on which other virtues “hinge.” In other words, if you master these four virtues you will have an easier time mastering others.
Prudence is really about taking control of your life. Focusing on what is truly important. Moving our lives toward specific goals.
For disciples of Christ, the stakes for mastering prudence is even higher. When our lives are running frantic, when we give up control to the influences of the world, it is more difficult to us to stay in the stream of grace. God’s power and love are pulling us to true conversion – to transformation.
Grace is a “gift freely given” but we are also called to freely cooperate with that grace. But before we can cooperate with grace, we need to be free to do so. We need to be free of the worldly forces that pull us into our frantic, hectic pace.
