Faith Finances by Tomas Zordani

“Could you ever imagine Jesus going to the cross and then saying, ‘Simon, dying for people’s sins is scary and difficult. Would you do it for me?’ Of course not!” (120).

Thomas Zordani is trying to use a twist of Jesus’ via dolorosa to illustrate the immorality of having someone else pay your debt for you. The problem is, Jesus went to the cross to pay a debt that was not His! He paid the debt of sin that we owed, for us! As Saint Anselem said, only God could have paid our debt for sin, but only man should have paid it. That is why Jesus had to be both God and man. However, Jesus had no sin – so he owed none of the debt that He paid with his life.
