Abbey Office: About Us

First of all, you should probably be made aware that we are not a real abbey. The name of the apostolate, "From the Abbey," grew out of the idea for a moral theology textbook in which a teenager enters into a correspondence with a Dominican Brother, a friend of her mother's. She asks him questions and presents her doubts about the Catholic faith and Brother Thomas instructs her in moral theology and Catholic teaching in his letters back to her. As the textbook grew into a curriculum, and the Dear Brother Thomas project was joined to an existing book sales business (see History of From the Abbey), the religious order theme just seemed to take on a life of its own, and From the Abbey was eventually born.

From the Abbey has no physical storefront, retreat house, or abbey. It is a virtual presence on the Worldwide Web, and a mobile presence wherever Jeff Arrowood takes his educational programs and books to sell. See below for more information on the work of From the Abbey. See also the History of From the Abbey to learn about the creation of the Abbey, Brother Thomas and me, Brother Martin.
